Childhood dreams

In the year 2000, the Olympic Games were held in Sydney. Their mascots were Syd, a platypus, Millie, an echidna and Olly, a kookaburra. I remember my excitement at age six when I got a McDonald’s Happy Meal with a Millie.

Four years later, the Olympic Games were held in Athens. McDonald’s didn’t have any mascot toys.

Four years after that, the Olympic Games were held in Beijing. I may have been older than the usual target market for McDonald’s Happy Meals, but I was just excited to collect these toys that were Olympic-y. I didn’t manage to get all of them.

This year, the Olympic Games are in London. The mascots are ugly but I still want them. Too bad McDonald’s doesn’t have ’em. Probably because there’s only two. BUT SO WHAT?!

Official Olympic merchandise is expensive. I am shattered.
